How to play The Hollow Eye

Descend into the sewers with your four-hero party. Move on the grid, manage health and mana, fight in turn-based combat and search for secrets.

Party management

Select heroes with 1-4. Keep warriors up front, rest (R) when mana runs low, and never descend with a wounded front line.

Searching

Press F in suspicious corridors - the classic secret-button walls hide treasure. The map (M) is your best friend.

About The Hollow Eye

The Hollow Eye is a free browser dungeon crawler RPG in the grand tradition of Eye of the Beholder and the grid-based classics of the early 90s. An ancient evil stirs beneath the city of Grayhaven - a creature of pure darkness with many eyes, whose gaze is death - and a party of four adventurers descends into the sewers to end the threat. You guide that party step by step through twisting corridors rendered in a custom pseudo-3D engine: move forward, turn, strafe, and map the dungeon in your head just like the old days (or press M and let the automap help). The four heroes each matter - warriors hold the line, casters spend mana on spells, and switching between them with the 1-4 keys is second nature within minutes. Combat is tactical: attack with Space, cast with C, and manage the party's health and mana over long expeditions, resting when the math says you can afford it. True to the genre, the dungeon itself is an adversary - searchable walls hide treasure and secrets (press F often), dead ends punish sloppy mapping, and the darkness feels genuinely oppressive thanks to procedural audio and a tight, atmospheric presentation. This is a thinking player's RPG: no hand-holding, no quest markers - just you, the grid, and what waits around the corner. It runs entirely in your browser with no download and no account, built on a custom canvas renderer with Web Audio. If you cut your teeth on dungeon crawlers, this is a lovely return to form; if you never did, this is the perfect free place to learn what real dungeon delving feels like. Gather the party, light the torches, and descend.
